New Orleans Chicken

0.5

from E-Mart

at home

-Oksu, Seoul-

with Wife, Dominic, Ian, Lisa and Becca

E-Mart recently introduced a new fried chicken to its prepackaged ready-to-eat offerings.  Compared to the standard fried chicken (see generally 2.257 Fried Chicken), it had a thinner coating (= dry) and a slightly different flavor (= bland).  It was awful, nearly inedible.  7,980 won per bird.  I've heard so many superlatives about the food from New Orleans--in fact, the city is one of the only places in America that I'm dying to visit just for the food--so I was sorely disappointed.  Yes, I know that this chicken has absolutely nothing to do with New Orleans; in fact, when I asked the guy behind the counter, he had no idea what "New Orleans" was.

Number One Fan Lisa wanted to visit E-Mart, a tradition whenever she's in town.  Part of it was to look around, part of it to provide Becca some playtime with Dominic at the indoor playground there.  We all had a quick bite at the food court, got the kids set up to do their thing, and did some shopping in the meantime, which is when I picked up the chicken.  Afterwards, we went back to our place for a quick nightcap, which is when I tried the chicken.  Nobody else wanted any, fortunately for them.

Meeting each other for the first time, Ian immediately begins to boss Molly around, an accurate reenactment of the first meeting between his daddy and her mommy (in attitude) (in actuality, the mommy was the lawyer and the daddy was the law clerk, so the technical bossing went the other way around).

  2. well, of course, you were the lawyer and i was just a law clerk, so i didn't technically boss u around, not at the first meeting, and not at work. but in attitude, i was the boss from the get go, as i still am today. notice how you're *MY* Number One Fan.

man, that was the summer of 2001, almost 12 years ago. remember how we started just a day apart, u on monday and me on tuesday? we were hired at the same time--obviously for different jobs--but it was such a small firm that they didn't have the manpower to give us orientations on the same day, so they asked u to come in first. i even remember RR telling me to start tuesday because they had to give some quality time to their new big shot associate.

didn't we have the best time while i was there?

  3. In fact I can pin that day to the exact date- I started this job on 5/14/2001, so we met on 5/15/2001. Damn we are getting old.
