Beef Tenderloin with Special Sauce

TEITY.  Try Every Item at Tao Yuan* (see previously 5.288 Special Beef Brisket in Pot).  Attempting to eat my way through the restaurant, all 222 items (excluding shark's fin and desserts).  From what I've seen so far, it would seem to be one of the best in the neighborhood, solid on all counts: taste, quality, variety, service, vibe, proximity, maybe price.  Once I've tried everything, I'll know exactly what to get, depending on the circumstances, whether it's for a quick bite on my own, a casual night out with friends/colleagues/family, or a formal occasion hosting bosses/VIPs.  That kind of certainty, in the unpredictable culinary landscape of Manila, will be invaluable.

Something of a sequel to TERRP (Try Every Restaurant in Robinsons Place), which had me eating my way through an entire mall, all 85 restaurants (see generally 5.247 Original Recipe Fried Chicken...), much to my eternal regret and shame.

7 dishes tonight, total 48 down, 174 remaining; 12th visit so far, averaging 4.08 items per visit, on pace to finish at TEITY 57.

BLUE: highly recommended / GREEN: respectable / YELLOW: mediocre / ORANGE: better avoided / RED: never again / GREY: off-limits due to ethical concerns


Once again, various members of SCREAM* obliged to join me for TEITY and help move the agenda along.  Good to have friends.

*Supper Club, Residents of Ermita And Malate.  Just made the name up, using my formidable prowess in creating stupid acronyms.  Haven't run it by the members.  Core members include me, James and Karla, Carmen, Deirdre and Hans, Britta, Fabia, Trinette, Marissa.   [Retroactively, I'll apply the designation to past dinners involving various members.]

 Radish Cakes with XO Sauce (2.0)

Crab Roe Siomai (3.0)--couldn't taste the roe, but it presents a nice visual.

(Though I forgot to take a photo, we also ordered the Sichuan Hot & Sour Soup (1.0)--bland, seafood bits a bit fishy.)

Clams with Spicy Wine (1.0)

Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle (2.5)--decent flavor, very eggy, but the noodles were kinda mushy for my tastes.

Mixed Vegetables with Soy Bean Sauce in Pot (1.0)--don't know what soy bean sauce is, but it wasn't very good.

The Beef Tenderloin with Special Sauce was the highlight.  Lightly coated, deep-fried, served with a sweetish soy glaze.  Ridiculously tender, even for tenderloin.**  Good flavor, if somewhat predictable.  A contender for the Korean WPRO staff menu.

**I should learn how Chinese restaurants do this, probably with some kind of chemical tenderizer.
