Pan-Fried Egg White with Dried Scallop

TEITY.  Try Every Item at Tao Yuan* (see previously 5.315 Bihon with Scallops & Lettuce in Superior Sauce).  Attempting to eat my way through the restaurant, all 222 items (excluding shark's fin and desserts).  From what I've seen so far, it would seem to be one of the best in the neighborhood, solid on all counts: taste, quality, variety, service, vibe, proximity, maybe price.  Once I've tried everything, I'll know exactly what to get, depending on the circumstances, whether it's for a quick bite on my own, a casual night out with friends/colleagues/family, or a formal occasion hosting bosses/VIPs.  That kind of certainty, in the unpredictable culinary landscape of Manila, will be invaluable.

Something of a sequel to TERRP (Try Every Restaurant in Robinsons Place), which had me eating my way through an entire mall, all 85 restaurants (see generally 5.247 Original Recipe Fried Chicken...), much to my eternal regret and shame.

8 new dishes tonight, total 111 down--exactly halfway there!--111 remaining; 22 visits so far, averaging 5.05 items per visit as of tonight, on pace to finish at TEITY 46.

The clear highlight of the meal was the Pan-Fried Egg White with Dried Scallop.  Scrambled egg whites, firm.  Topped with dried scallop, shredded.  Lightly seasoned, subtle, delicate flavor.  Surprisingly good.  Similar to but less sophisticated than a dish that I recently raved about at a different Chinese restaurant (see generally 5.244 Scrambled Egg Whites with Fish & Dried Scallops).  In any case, it's a strong contender for the Korean WPRO menu.

Tableside service.

Cantonese-Style Fresh Drunken Shrimp (2.0)--despite all that, they were a tad fishy, certainly not worth all the fuss; pain to peel.

Steamed Dace Ball with Vegetable (2.5)--dace being a small freshwater fish; not much flavor, but pleasant mouthfeel, rustic, hand-made.

Steamed Pork & Coriander Dumplings (2.0)--too much coriander, for me.

Crispy Pork Pie with Cashew Nuts (1.25)--don't like pastry, don't like cashews (in dishes).

Braised Stuffed Whole Dried Scallop (1.25)--pretty crappy as a dish, none of the components getting on with the others--the scallops were stuffed in radish rings--however, each component eaten alone was okay.

Sautéed Salted Pork with Spinach (1.75)

Golden Seafood Roll (3.0)--glorified fishcake, not too bad, perhaps as an anju.

Way too much food for two, obviously, but we were both intent on hitting the halfway mark.  In the end, we somehow managed to finish the food.
